Lee Attard (Designer / Coder)

After working in various capacities I finally had the opportunity to study in the field that had always been a passion of mine – design.

I attended three local Colleges and obtained an OCR Level 2 in Web Page Design, a NCFE Multimedia level 2 qualification and completed an evening course in Digital Art. During this time I also self studied in Flash, Illustrator, XHTML, CSS and basic Actionscript as well as design principles, with particular focus on web design and usability.

On completion of my studying I started to gain experience as a junior designer with companies which included the BBC and The Walt Disney Internet Group. I also designed and built various websites for people in a freelance capacity.

I then went on to obtain freelance work with the BBC where I designed various DVD covers and interfaces for BBC’s Interactive Drama and Entertainment department and also obtained work with a company called Digital Annexe who were responsible for creating all the content on the UK Mercedes-Benz website.

From here I joined a recruitment agency in London who specialised in placing designers in temporary positions. This was a great opportunity as I got to work in top London design agencies like Banner, EHS Brann, The Digi Deli & 3PIN. Whilst working at these companies I continued with my freelance work as well as expanding on my knowledge with more self study.

I was then placed at CNET. CNET is one of the UK’s leading technology media companies. Whilst temping there I worked mainly on four of their websites: www.cnet.co.uk, www.silicon.com, www.zdnet.co.uk and www.gamespot.com. Each site had its own unique and individual branding and all designs needed to be tailored to suite each site. I was working at CNET until I moved to Spain in early 2007.

I then spent a year working part time as a designer for a local design agency on the coast and part time running Aqua Creative with my wife Stefana Attard
